Artist statement
The “with love from capitalism” depicts the human relationship with money. How capitalism has been able to deform many humans, from the start of one’s life till its end, it is all surrounded by the idea of money. Is there more to life than such?
Humans, at the start of life had only one goal, staying alive, filling one’s body with water and food. Now adays there is much more to life from starting from us needing social media, education, luxuries to money, making more and more. Is that how to satisfy our bodies now? Why has it gone from consuming food to money consuming us. Depicting many from an early age, what field of studies to they go into to, what clothes to buy. Gucci? Prada?
The gif “with love from capitalism” is meant to show the toxic yet beautiful relationship we have with money. Allowing many to achieve greatness yet blurring out others in the way. Why do we continue to let money consume us? When did it turn into feeding our bodies with food and water, needing to survive, to needing money to live? Have we forgotten our own roots?

The process.

The inspiration.
The inspiration behind that project was seeing someone close to me become consumed with money. The moment where I saw the biggest difference in them was when they complained because they got a Balenciaga bag as a gift and not a Louis Vuitton bag. That is the same person which use to make homemade yogurt because buying it at the store was too expensive.

The start.
In the begging I was truly confused on how to convey the corruption money or how it can consume someone. I decided to create a video of me consuming pills in then add in money symbols on the pills to show the addictive/ negative part of money.
The reason I choice pills was due to me being inspired by the blue pill vs red pill artworks. This often depicted someone personality based on what they pick.

Revision.
After a few feedback sessions I realised I was focusing too much on the addictive/ negative side of it all and my message wasn’t clear, especially as I used pills to show the corruption of money.
Therefore I started to question how can money consume someone?
Why don’t I take a more ‘hands on’ path with this project. Let’s show people the physical side of consuming money, literally.

The final outcome.
The final outcome was a video, of me eating a physical coin. What enhanced the video was various editing effects showing the negative when the coin was in my body in contradiction to when it was out of my body.How could I enhance it even more?
Adding a layer of music on top of this video enhanced the negative versus positive effect of the money. Therefore making sure my audience understood my message clearly.
